Overview

Roposo is a social video platform that offers content in multiple Indian regional languages and organizes videos into about 25 interest-based channels. The app pivoted from a fashion social network (launched in 2013) to videos in August 2017. It claims 25 million total users, 7.5 million monthly active users, 250,000 user-generated videos and 160 million video views per day. About 30% of users have created content, and creators can earn money based on engagement. Roposo provides editing tools and a TV-like viewing experience to attract users in smaller Indian cities and towns. The company plans to use new funding for hiring, product development and user acquisition. Roposo is a discovery platform for fashion products that lets users save items from different websites and allows brands to create official accounts. The company uses a recommendation engine (originally developed for Giveter) to surface relevant products and aims to become the “default fashion search engine” for Indian shoppers. Roposo says it has more than one million users, 200 web stores, and 4,000 brands on the platform. The founding team includes a former chief technology officer of restaurant directory Zomato, and the company is based in Gurgaon. Roposo’s strategy is tied to the rapid rise of India’s e-commerce market and to complement large marketplaces by helping shoppers discover products. Financially, the startup has raised $21 million in total to date, including the recent round led by Tiger Global. Roposo launched at the end of 2013 and uses a recommendation engine (originally built for Giveter) to help users discover fashion. The platform’s Android and iOS apps let shoppers save and categorize clothing and makeup and surface popular items and trends. Brands and about 150 fashion e-commerce stores can create accounts to market their products on Roposo. A website version was reported as coming soon. The company positions itself as a dedicated fashion search and discovery destination and aims to compete with general search and social platforms for fashion queries. As of the article, Roposo had raised a total of $6 million. Roposo, operated by Gurgaon-based Relevant e-solutions Pvt Ltd, is a fashion-focused social network launched in December last year that lets women discover and buy curated fashion items. The product surfaces over two lakh products across 5,000 brands from more than 150 vendors, with items recommended to each user based on individual taste. The company says it has crossed 100,000 unique monthly visitors. Founders are Avinash Saxena (former CTO of Zomato) and Mayank Bhangadia (formerly a senior consultant at Schlumberger Business Consulting). Roposo plans to use new capital for product enhancement and category expansion. Financially, the startup has completed an initial round of under $500,000 and recently closed a bridge round for further growth.
