Overview
RosieReality, out of Zürich and founded in early 2018, develops consumer augmented-reality experiences aimed at getting kids interested in robotics and programming. Its first product is a smartphone camera–based app centred on “Rosie,” an AR robot that inhabits a Lego-like modular world. Users build and solve world-size 3D puzzles within that AR environment, and solving the puzzles requires programming Rosie to move around the augmented world. The app is designed to combine creative building, social play and education, targeting teens who enjoy intricately crafted puzzles. CEO Selim Benayat frames the camera as a tool to teach and enable the next generation of creators and positions gaming as a creative, social and educational outlet. The company recently raised seed funding, giving it initial capital to develop and scale the product. RosieReality develops Rosie, an augmented-reality robot for iPhones that lets children ages 8 and up learn programming and science through interactive, contextual experiences. The team positions early childhood education as a primary AR use case, aiming for multi-dimensional, engaging learning. RosieReality has a private beta that has been tested with more than 1,000 children and plans to publish a smaller, stable version to the Swiss App Store at the end of the month. The new capital will be used to expand the team and advance the product. The company operates from a Zurich HQ at the Wyss Centre at ETH, is recruiting new hires, and is planning an outpost in San Francisco. Its stated goal is global expansion during 2018 to bring AR to mainstream customers.
