Rounded builds an orchestration platform that lets companies compose off-the-shelf speech-to-text models, LLMs and text-to-speech models to create custom AI voice agents. The startup began as a web3 project and pivoted to AI voice agents in June 2023; co-founder Aymeric Vaudelin is quoted explaining the product evolution. Rounded initially packaged a first agent called Donna for anesthetists and convinced 15 private hospitals to let the agent answer calls, with the company reporting hundreds of thousands of conversations handled. The team focused on improving accuracy, integrations and speed—reducing web-call latency to about 600–700 milliseconds (plus ~200 ms for phone connectivity). The platform supports selecting model stacks (the article gives an example using Azure, GPT-4o mini and ElevenLabs) and helps define instruction trees, prompts and parameters to iterate toward reliable agents. Rounded has raised €600,000 so far, giving it initial runway as it broadens its orchestration product for other companies.
