Rubrik

3495 Deer Creek Road, Palo Alto, California, 94304, United States

Overview

Rubrik provides Zero Trust Data Management focused on rapid recovery from ransomware, automated data operations, and cloud migration. Its core offering delivers immutable data protection, instant search and restore, and policy-based management at scale for Microsoft 365 and enterprise workloads. Rubrik uses a NIST-aligned Zero Trust architecture so data remains natively immutable and recoverable after attacks. The company is expanding tighter integration with Microsoft Azure to deliver integrated protection for hybrid cloud environments and long-term archival for compliance. Rubrik and Microsoft report supporting more than 2,000 mutual customers and managing hundreds of petabytes of data under Azure across six continents. The collaboration aims to accelerate customer cloud adoption, improve digital resilience, and simplify go-to-market and engineering integration. Rubrik offers enterprise-grade data backup and recovery across on-premises, cloud and multi-cloud environments with a focus on hybrid-cloud data protection. Its core product set centers on data recovery and backup, and the company has positioned security features prominently in its Andes platform. Rubrik has been an early mover in hybrid backup and competes with vendors such as Druva, CommVault and EMC. Management says it will use new funding to build and acquire technology to expand deeper into security and compliance alongside its existing data management products. The company made its first acquisition last year when it bought NoSQL backup specialist Datos IO, and it signals openness to further acquisitions. Rubrik is not disclosing revenue metrics and is currently not profitable by design, prioritizing growth toward a longer-term, profitable outcome. Rubrik received an undisclosed investment from NBA champion and entrepreneur Kevin Durant, who also joined the company's board as an advisor. Durant will leverage his experience to advise on strategic initiatives and content development opportunities through his Thirty Five Media business arm, including his YouTube channel. Founded in 2014 by Bipul Sinha, Rubrik is a Palo Alto, CA-based cloud data management company that provides a platform for businesses, governments and nonprofit organizations worldwide to keep and use their data. The platform delivers instant application availability with data protection, search, analytics, archival and copy data management. To date the company has raised over $292M in funding from venture capital firms such as IVP, Lightspeed Ventures, Greylock Partners and Khosla Ventures as well as angel investors including John W. Thompson, Frank Slootman, Mark Leslie and Dheeraj Pandey. Rubrik offers a Cloud Data Management platform for data protection, search, analytics, archival and copy data management across hybrid cloud environments. The company serves customers across verticals including financial services, retail, legal, government and healthcare. Rubrik has launched eight major product releases and supports 15 different applications across multiple cloud platforms. Most recently it announced Rubrik for AWS and Azure cloud-native applications and cross-cloud data orchestration. The company has more than 330 employees worldwide and is on track to add 70 to 90 hires each quarter while building sales, marketing and support teams across five continents. Rubrik will use the new funds to accelerate product development and go-to-market investments worldwide. Rubrik operates a cloud data management platform that uses an on‑prem appliance to handle backups, de‑duplication, archiving and compliance while distributing data to the cloud. The product supports AWS and Azure today and the company said additional vendor support could be added with new funding. Rubrik emphasizes instant file retrieval from the cloud, positioning itself against legacy vendors like EMC, NetApp and Commvault as well as pure cloud backup solutions. The company reported rapid operational growth—100% quarter‑over‑quarter increases in both revenue and customer numbers—and cited $250,000 deals closing in roughly 76 days. Headcount has expanded quickly: after a prior round the company had 20 employees and added 140 more over 15 months, including teams in Europe and Asia/Pacific. CEO Bipul Sinha expressed an ambition to scale the business toward a $10–15 billion opportunity, and the company intends to invest the new capital to build the organization and accelerate development.
