Overview
Rune builds a mobile app that uses AI to find teammates and connect them on real-time voice chat; users push a button and Rune instantly matches them and runs in the background while they play. The app is designed as a one-button, mobile-first social experience tailored to the "Fortnite generation" and learns users' best matches over time. Rune debuted in March and the team says users have spent more than 50,000 hours talking and gaming with friends they met on the platform; the app has about 2,000 five-star App Store reviews. The company was founded by Sanjay Guruprasad and Bjarke Felbo, MIT doctoral students who dropped out, and is a Y Combinator alum. Rune currently has three employees and is focused on matchmaking for Supercell's Brawl Stars, with plans to add more games soon. The company has raised $2 million to support its effort to use AI to help find friends for mobile gamers.
