Overview
RunKeeper is one of the more popular health and fitness apps on the iPhone and is building a broader "Health Graph" to let many types of health data plug into its service. The company opened its Health Graph API in June and has 40 services integrated. Third-party data sharing is still relatively small but is reported to be doubling every month. RunKeeper has 14 employees and is hiring additional staff. CEO Jason Jacobs describes the Health Graph as a system to correlate eating, workouts, social interactions and other data to deliver an ecosystem of health and fitness apps and devices. The product aims to extend beyond fitness enthusiasts by assembling users' historical health data in a single dashboard. FitnessKeeper, based in Boston, develops the RunKeeper smartphone application for tracking outdoor fitness activities. The app enables iPhone and Android users to record time, distance, speed, pace, calories and to map their routes. In the reported financing the company raised $1.11M led by O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, with participation from LaunchCapital and prominent angel investors. That round brings total capital raised to date to $1.51M. FitnessKeeper intends to use the proceeds to continue building RunKeeper and to hire additional staff.
