Runnr operates as a food-delivery and on-demand logistics platform, created after Roadrunnr acquired TinyOwl in June. It combines Roadrunnr's on-demand logistics background (run by Bengaluru-based Carthero Technologies Pvt. Ltd) with TinyOwl's restaurant listing and food-ordering experience. Roadrunnr raised $11 million in a Series A in July 2015 and was founded in 2015 by Mohit Kumar and Arpit Dave. TinyOwl had raised close to Rs185 crore across four rounds and scaled back operations to only Mumbai in May. Runnr has received fresh investor capital amid a renewed wave of funding into food-tech startups. The online food-ordering sector in India is estimated at around Rs5,000–6,000 crore but is transaction-driven with wafer-thin margins, making survival difficult.
