Rutter

156 2nd St, San Francisco, CA, 94105, United States

Overview

Rutter provides a universal e-commerce API for reading and writing data across commerce platforms, payment processors, and accounting systems to help companies offer loans, sync inventory, and expand to marketplaces. Its integrations cover Shopify, Amazon, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, PrestaShop, QuickBooks, Xero, Stripe, and PayPal, and it launches about five new integrations per month. The company is positioning itself as a “Plaid for commerce,” building a commerce data infrastructure layer and adding features such as webhook-based real-time order notifications. Rutter serves fintech customers (Ramp, Airwallex, Uncapped, Lenkie) and e-commerce enablement firms (CJ Dropshipping, Gelato, Shirtsy, Moonshot Brands). Since Q2 2021 the company has grown revenue tenfold and grew fivefold following a funding round last August. The team is currently 19 people with plans to expand to about 80 by year-end and to support more than 100 integrations by year-end. Rutter is a remote-first company building a unified e-commerce API that lets customers connect to platforms such as Shopify, Walmart and Amazon with a single integration. The founders, Eric Yu and Peter Zhou, began work on Rutter in 2017 and went through Y Combinator’s summer 2019 cohort. The product targets developers and businesses that need a single script to access storefront data for features like customer support, chatbots, returns, warranties and checkouts. Since launching publicly earlier this year, Rutter says its API volume has been doubling and tripling in recent months and it supports merchants connected to over 5,000 stores. The company is using new funding to build out its team, including hiring more engineers, and aims to be the “glue” of the e-commerce SaaS stack. Revenue metrics were not disclosed by the company.
