Ryte
608 Rennie St, Hamilton, ON, L8H 3P8, Canada
Overview
Ryte operates a Website User Experience Platform and has added a ‘Ryte Website Carbon KPI’ to measure the CO2 footprint of sites using a proprietary algorithm that analyzes site code, average page size, and monthly traffic by channel. The company says it developed the metric with data scientists and environmental experts, including Katharina Meraner (PhD in climate science) and input from ClimatePartner. Ryte aims to make 5% of active websites (about 9.5 million of the 189 million active sites cited) climate neutral by the end of 2023. It also offers customers the ability to offset remaining emissions via a reforestation project in San Jose, Nicaragua and climate certificates. Ryte cites the Shift Project’s finding that the internet and supporting systems account for roughly 3.7% of global greenhouse emissions to contextualize demand. Financially, Ryte raised €8.5 million (~$10 million) in a previously undisclosed round earlier this year to scale its platform and new carbon service. Ryte provides a SaaS platform that helps businesses monitor and improve website quality. The company was founded in 2012 as an SEO tool called Onpage.org and pivoted in 2017 to focus on broader website-quality management, rebranding as Ryte. It serves about 1,500 clients, including BMW, Allianz, and Boston Consulting Group. Ryte raised €6.5 million to prepare for international expansion. The company previously raised a €4.9 million seed round to fuel its post-pivot direction. Ryte is a Munich-based B2B software company founded in 2012 that provides a platform for monitoring, analyzing and optimizing digital assets. The company serves more than 400,000 users and is adding approximately 600 new users per day; it currently employs 62 people. Ryte’s customer base includes companies such as Allianz, Rewe and Sixt, agencies like Jung von Matt and BlueSummit Media, and publishers including Burda and Condé Nast. Management says the company aims to become the “Foundation for Digital Success” and a global market leader. Ryte plans to use external funding to improve and further develop its products and to expand its international presence. Prior to this financing the company had been completely self-financed.
