S.Lab

A. Lauteri tn 3, Tallinn, Harju maakond, 10114, Estonia

Overview

S.Lab, founded in Ukraine in 2021 by Julia Bialetska and Eugene Tomilin, develops plant-based packaging using agricultural waste and mycelium. Its core material matches polystyrene in thermal insulation and water resistance but biodegrades in soil within 30 days. The company has proprietary, highly scalable production technology that integrates robotics and automation for plant-based packaging manufacture. S.Lab positions its solution as a full replacement for foamed plastic and targets clients from local businesses to multinational corporations. It plans to use recent funds to further develop and enhance its production technology and expand capacity to meet growing demand. Financially, S.Lab received $100,000 in equity-free funding and non-monetary support from Google for Startups Ukraine Support Fund. S.Lab manufactures biodegradable, plastic-free packaging molded from waste hemp stalks and mushroom mycelium that decomposes within a month in soil. Its products provide insulation and can be formed into boxes, trays, inserts and wraps for cosmetics, fashion, electronics, food and pharma customers. The founders, Yuliia Bialetska and Yevhen Tomilin, invested $40–50,000 of personal savings and initially reinvested early sales revenue; the startup also received small innovation grants. S.Lab launched in Kyiv, temporarily relocated the team to Spain after Russia’s full-scale invasion, and expanded sales research into Scandinavia, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany and Switzerland. EU sales now account for roughly 70–80% of revenue while Ukrainian clients are returning. The company is prioritizing capital investment to establish an automated production line to scale from hundreds to thousands of units monthly and aims to operationalize that line by the end of the year.
