Overview
Salut is an app-based service that enables fitness trainers to host virtual group video classes and collect payments from cohorts of users. Founder Matthew DiPietro, formerly of Twitch, soft-launched the product in mid-September and announced a wider release today. The product supports live classes, tips/donations, and now allows trainers to enable class replays; subscription options are planned in a quarter or two. The company currently has 55 registered trainers and reports early users willing to pay $5 or $10 for an hour of training. Salut is not taking a cut of trainer revenue today, passing 100% of post-Apple income or 85% of the gross to trainers. The startup raised $1.25 million and is earmarking the financing largely for engineering to execute an ambitious product roadmap; it also announced a partnership with Fitness Mentors to build a Virtual Group Fitness Instructor certification.
