Sandstorm is an open source hosting platform that enables users to run personal instances of web apps. Users can install apps like e-mail, document editors, and blogging software through a simple app-store-like web interface without configuration files or command lines. The platform allows uploading and installing arbitrary software to make running a personal server as easy as running a phone. Sandstorm plans to use the new funding to develop and prove the platform and to build a marketplace where open source Sandstorm apps will be sold. The company was founded by Kenton Varda and Jade Wang and is based in Palo Alto, California. Prior to this seed round the company raised $59k via Indiegogo in August 2014.
