Overview
Sapho provides a platform to build lightweight "micro apps" that make legacy enterprise systems (including those without APIs) easier to use and more accessible. Its product covers common workflows such as expense reporting, sales tasks, IT support tickets and HR tasks, and integrates with Microsoft Teams, IBM Domino, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle EBS, Salesforce and SAP ERP. The service is priced at $4 per active user per month plus a one-time connection fee for integrating legacy systems, and Sapho reports a utilization rate above 90 percent. The company grew revenues 320% and customers 200% in 2016, but is not yet profitable and is investing all resources in growth. That traction has also drawn M&A interest, with Microsoft and IBM among parties that have held acquisition discussions. Sapho creates a platform of single-purpose “micro apps” that integrate with legacy enterprise software to surface updates and enable quick actions without opening the underlying systems. The company offers many preconfigured micro apps and lets customers build their own integrations across sales, accounting, HR and other standard packages, and it integrates with Slack. Pricing is tiered from $2/user/month to $10/user/month regardless of how many micro apps are used. While still in stealth Sapho signed customers including CBS Interactive, Google, RPX Corporation and Turner. The three co-founders — Fouad ElNaggar, Peter Yared and Charles Christolini — developed the idea based on problems they observed at CBS; Yared had been CTO of CBS Interactive. Sapho is developing machine learning to visualize usage for IT planning and is exploring expanding micro apps to work between organizations and supply chains, while intentionally avoiding bots for now. Sapho aggregates and surfaces updates from a company’s disparate enterprise apps into a personalized stream tailored to each user. Using software APIs and individual access credentials it brings in data and is built to support legacy systems via Java-based integrations. The interface shows dynamic "cards" that users can view, click through to the source app, swipe left to dismiss, flag or resurface for colleagues, and start conversations around items. Sapho incorporates learning to serve more relevant content over time and has been described by the founders as a "Google Now" for enterprise software users. The company was founded by former CBS Interactive executives Fouad ElNaggar (CEO), Peter Yared (CTO), and Charles Christolini (VP engineering) and is currently operating in stealth. Sapho has raised $3 million and already has several large enterprises testing the product and nearing commercial deals ahead of a planned public launch later this year.
