Sardex operates a commercial credit platform that uses online accounts and a digital local currency to let professionals and companies finance themselves reciprocally. The system converts unexpressed productive capacity into liquidity to cover recurring costs and fund investments. It offers credit and payments tools and value-added promotion services that complement traditional banking. The model began in Sardinia and has been replicated across multiple Italian regions. As of 2015 the network counted more than 3,000 participating companies generating over €50m in transactions. The company plans to expand operations nationwide and launch in additional regions including Umbria and Veneto.
