Founded in 2023 and headquartered in Bengaluru, Sarla Aviation is developing a hybrid-electric eVTOL platform and a six-seater electric flying taxi aimed at reducing travel time for intra- and inter-city journeys. The company has built one of India’s largest private eVTOL demonstrators and says its team includes people with experience at global players such as Lilium, Volocopter, Beta Technologies, and Joby Aviation. Sarla emphasizes safety, affordability, and ease of use for its flagship programme and positions its aircraft to operate without runways and at lower costs than helicopters. With backing from investors including Accel and Nikhil Kamath in a prior round and a strategic equity investment from IndiGo Ventures, Sarla is aligning manufacturing capability with airline operational expertise. The company aims to participate in a broader OEM-operator ecosystem and support the commercial deployment of air taxi services across congested urban centres in India.
