Satlabs Space Systems, founded in February 2023 by Sooraj Gopakumar and Saisree Eega, is developing a data-relay network of satellites that serve as “floating ground stations” to shorten earth-observation data latency from hours to minutes and eventually near real time. By bypassing the limitations of sparse ground-station coverage, the startup enables faster data delivery for defence, agriculture, disaster response, offshore energy, and industrial IoT applications. The company is progressing toward the launch of a proof-of-concept relay satellite as the first step in a phased constellation rollout planned over the coming years. Its technology roadmap also targets non-terrestrial industrial IoT connectivity, extending real-time communication to regions beyond terrestrial network reach. Satlabs aims to provide cost-efficient, scalable, and globally compatible satellite communication infrastructure that bolsters India’s space-tech ecosystem. Backed by recent funding, the firm will accelerate R&D, advance satellite deployment, and scale its data-relay network.
