ScaleIO develops ScaleIO ECS, an elastic converged software-defined storage solution that presents local disks on application servers as a shared virtual SAN. ECS converges storage into compute and can scale capacity and performance linearly to thousands of servers, eliminating dependence on external SANs and fabric. The product targets data-center challenges including scalability, capacity planning, infrastructure management, and power/space constraints, and the company says ECS can cut storage costs by more than 80% and deliver over 28% savings on total IT budgets. ScaleIO already has dozens of installations at enterprise customers and managed service providers, including SAP, Check Point, Aer Lingus, and Colt, and its solution is in use at large data centers in the United States and Europe. The founding team—together for almost 15 years—includes storage veterans from IBM, Topio, NetApp, LSI, and XtremIO and holds nearly 20 data storage patents. The company will use the new funding to expand its field operations to meet growing enterprise and service-provider demand.
