101 S San Mateo Dr Fl 4, San Mateo, CA, 94401, United States
Overview
Scalyr provides a cloud-based platform that aggregates server logs and metrics in real time for high-speed analysis and troubleshooting. The company built its data management engine from the ground up, avoiding legacy document indexing used by competitors. Scalyr reports engineers can search 1 terabyte of log data per second, 96% of searches complete in under one second, and the service can be up to 1,000x faster than rivals. It serves roughly 140 customers, including CareerBuilder, Business Insider, OkCupid, Baidu and Giphy, and says it has never lost a customer. The founding team includes two former Google engineers led by CEO Steve Newman. Scalyr plans to scale up sales and marketing and expand its engineering and product teams; it recently completed a financing event that supports that growth. Scalyr provides a single tool that ingests server logs, metrics, error reports and other performance data to give developers actionable insight into application behavior and failures. The team built a new data-management engine to handle very large log files and the compute needed to analyze them. Scalyr offers an agent and connectors, with existing support for Heroku and Amazon RDS and CloudWatch, and plans to launch additional connectors. The company differentiates itself from incumbents like Splunk and Loggly by focusing on rollups and error analysis and does not position itself as a direct competitor to New Relic. Scalyr has been in development for about three years, did a silent launch two years ago with early customers, and is currently a four-person team. The company plans to use the new funding to hire additional staff and to give users more guidance on query usage.
