Overview

schoolFeed is a social app and standalone site that layers on Facebook identity to help users search by class year and reconnect with long‑lost high‑school classmates. The product includes a classmates‑focused news feed, tools to plan real‑life reunions, and a virtual currency system that rewards engagement and pays for games and access to scanned yearbook pages. A recently introduced feature lets one user per school have a yearbook professionally scanned and uploaded, with other classmates using virtual currency to access pages. The app launched seven months prior to the article and, according to founder Lance Tokuda, has grown to more than 7 million registered users and nearly half a million daily active users (with AppData showing higher DAU on some days). Tokuda says the company will keep its focus on classmates, though he’d like to add more features for younger users over time. The product design emphasizes virality while limiting abuse (e.g., preventing repeated actions from farming points) to preserve user experience.
