SCI Semiconductor

Electric Works Digital Campus, 3 Concourse Way, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S1 2BJ, United Kingdom

Overview

SCI Semiconductor is building the ICENI family of memory-safe chips that enforce security by dividing memory into compartments and tightly controlling access, aiming to prevent roughly 70% of cyber attacks tied to memory-safety bugs. The chips will be used with open-source software and development tools to lower cybersecurity costs and reduce the need for continuous patching. ICENI products, due to launch later this year, are based on CHERI technology developed at the University of Cambridge and supported by UK and US governments. The company targets critical infrastructure, defence, automotive and medical markets and has already signed up key customers including Google Research. Founded in 2022 by Haydn Povey and Krishna Anne, SCI plans to build an engineering team in Sheffield to bring its product to market. The company positions itself to restore UK leadership in secure semiconductor technology and strengthen supply-chain security.
