SCiFi Foods, founded in 2019 by CEO Joshua March and CTO Kasia Gora, combines plant‑based proteins and cultivated meat to create its first burger product. The company uses a high‑throughput mammalian cell‑line engineering platform and CRISPR to bioengineer cells that grow at scale and to bring fat and flavor into its products while avoiding tissue‑engineering scaffolding. SCiFi says this hybrid approach reduces the cost curve versus 100% cultivated meat and focuses on scalable production. It recently moved into a 16,000‑square‑foot R&D facility near the East Bay and plans to build a pilot biomanufacturing and fermentation plant by the end of the year. The company is working through regulatory approvals with the U.S. FDA and USDA and expects to be selling the burger in a couple of years if milestones are met. With platform and IP in place, SCiFi is investing the new capital in R&D, hiring, and marketing.
