Scipio Bioscience

Pépinière Paris Santé Cochin 29 rue du Faubourg Saint Jacques, Paris, Ile-de-France, 75014, France

Overview

Scipio bioscience develops a new generation of single-cell sequencing solutions based on a patented chemical approach for single-cell sample preparation. The company has developed a prototype single-cell RNA-sequencing kit that requires no specific equipment and is ready for beta-testing with collaborating research teams. Its user-friendly kit is intended to enable benchtop single-cell RNA-seq for both basic and clinical research, expanding access to thousands of scientists. Scipio is hosted in the iPEPS-ICM incubator at the Brain & Spine Institute in Paris and has initiated collaborations with ICM laboratories for beta testing. The company has been supported by a grant from Région Île-de-France and the Programme d’Investissement d’Avenir operated by BPI France. Scipio plans a commercial launch of its kit in 2022 and will use the Series A proceeds to complete final development, marketing, and business development efforts. Scipio bioscience develops a proprietary, patent‑based sample preparation solution for single‑cell omics based on barcoding in a test‑tube format, delivered as benchtop kits. The technology aims to remove the capital and running costs of existing methods and to avoid the need for specialized devices, enabling scalable, flexible single‑cell transcriptomics. The first application targets single‑cell transcriptome (RNA‑sequencing) studies. Leadership includes Prof Stuart Edelstein as President (technology inventor) and Pierre Walrafen, Ph.D., as CEO. The company is housed in the iPEPS‑ICM incubator at the Brain and Spine Institute in Paris and is initiating collaborations with ICM laboratories and other European research institutions for samples and user feedback. Scipio plans to reinforce its R&D team to complete a first prototype kit and to expand R&D operations into Germany in 2018.
