Scratch is an online and mobile shopping service that connects consumers with expert shoppers who respond to short text requests with personalized recommendations and enable in-app purchases. Recommendations are typically sent within 24 hours, with initial contact often occurring in under an hour. The app focuses on common items like gifts, clothing and home decor and offers a “Best Price Promise” that refunds the difference if a better online price is found within 30 days. Scratch generates revenue by taking a percentage of the retail price from partner brands and retailers and already works with a few hundred partners. The 14-person Boston team will use new funding to expand to Android, enhance app functionality, grow its partner network, and add more third-party shopping experts. The app is live today in an invite-only mode and also features curated product-discovery feeds from its shopping experts.
