Scream Truck operates a fleet of hot-pink ice-cream trucks that use texting alerts and a smartphone preorder system to deliver customized sundaes and Ghirardelli milkshakes instead of traditional popsicles. The company uses software to direct drivers to neighborhoods based on demand and limits visits to keep routes special; it reports selling out every route it creates. Founded in September 2020, Scream Truck currently runs five trucks across 14 New Jersey towns and has more than 18,000 households signed up for alerts despite having no marketing budget. Leadership includes founder and CEO Eric Murphy, who previously led experiences at Condé Nast, and president Jason Black, a former Goldman Sachs associate. The company is rolling out a sixth truck and plans to build a fleet of more than 100 trucks to expand nationally. Investors were attracted to the combination of technology, premium product, and apparent strong local demand.
