Secret Network offers privacy-preserving smart contracts or 'programmable privacy' that aim to protect data in DeFi and other Web3 applications. It launched privacy smart contracts on mainnet in September 2020 and is built on Cosmos SDK/Tendermint with its own consensus, on-chain governance, slashing and delegation. The network is secured by its native coin SCRT, which must be staked by validators and is used for transaction and computation fees as well as governance. Secret has launched native applications including SecretSwap, a front-running resistant cross-chain AMM, and is developing Secret NFTs. The project has a live bridge to Ethereum with over $100 million in assets locked and says it intends to become a data privacy hub for public blockchains. Secret recently attracted an investment equivalent to $11.5 million into SCRT as it focuses on expanding and supporting its fast-growing application layer.
