Overview

Securly provides edtech safety solutions for K-12 schools, including Filter & Auditor products for electronic monitoring, alerting and filtering. Its product suite also includes Parent Portal, 24, Tipline, Classroom and the Hub. Machine-learning algorithms flag potentially disturbing content and 24×7 student safety experts review alerts to assess context, reduce false alarms and contact schools, parents or authorities as needed. The company reports more than 2,000 paid school districts, a similar number using free Chromebook filtering and email auditing, over 500,000 parents on its Parent Portal, over 7 million students served and more than 5,000 schools served. Securly plans to use the funds to accelerate research and development in K-12 safety and to ramp up sales and support. The company is co-founded by Vinay Mahadik and Bharath Madhusudan and is based in San Jose, CA. Securly offers a cloud-based web filtering system sold directly to school districts to help K-12 schools meet internet-safety requirements. Its product is designed to be plug-and-play: an IT admin obtains a special IP address, drops it into a DNS field, and districts are protected within about 15 minutes. The company uses NLP, emotional learning and other machine learning techniques to distinguish between legitimate research and harmful behavior. Securly has begun emailing parents reports about students’ school internet use and plans a parent portal and app for proactive monitoring. It is developing tools to detect threats, self-harm, and suicidal statements and to alert parents by text. The company plans to expand across the U.S. and internationally where similar regulations exist, and expects consumer/home versions of its parental-control product. Securly provides a cloud-based web-filtering platform that lets K-12 IT admins manage student access, whitelists/blacklists and address over-blocking without installing hardware or software. The platform streamlines onboarding so districts can be up and running "in five minutes" and has expanded admin roles so teachers can control which sites are blocked. Securly says it is the first web-filtering option to integrate with Google Apps for Education and Chromebooks. The company is working with IT admins at more than 200 schools across the U.S., Canada and the U.K. Pricing is published at $3 per student per year for school use and $10 per user per year for at-home use. Securly says it is looking to expand.
