Seene
180 Sansome St, San Francisco, CA, 94104, United States
Overview
Seene built a mobile app that enabled users to capture and share 3D scenes, videos, GIFs and JPEGs with depth data. The app supported Google Cardboard on both Android and iOS and let users refocus and blur photos after capture by adjusting depth of field. Users could also download a JPEG with depth data to create their own 3D content and experiences. Capturing a scene involved pointing the phone and moving smoothly in one direction while the app reconstructed the 3D image. The company had raised $600k from investors including Jeremie Berrebi, Scott McPhee, Richard Fearn, Ben Wirz, Kima Ventures and the Knight Foundation. Seene was led by CEO Andrew McPhee, CTO Sam Hare and Mike Evans. Snapchat acquired Seene in a deal with undisclosed terms, and reports indicate the team will relocate to Los Angeles.
