Selphee is an iOS and Android app that creates bite-sized multimedia posts by pairing a still photo cover with a short video recorded via press-and-hold or chained snippets. The app encourages creative posts by switching camera lenses by default and offers optional frames and effects (speech bubbles, World Cup frames, hearts, etc.). Selphee launched at the beginning of February and has been positioned as a tool for sharing to mainstream social networks rather than as a standalone social network. The company has been backed by $250,000 in angel funding so far and has pulled in more than 15,000 downloads across iOS and Android. Founder Dennis Albinus reports an active user base of circa 60%. Planned monetization includes branded splash screens, sponsored frames, and upcoming paid extras such as the ability to add suggested music to posts.
