Sense Neuro Diagnostics is developing small, flexible, portable brain scanners that sit on a patient’s head and use low‑power tailored radio‑frequency pulses to detect traumatic brain injury (TBI) in seconds and monitor expanding intracranial hemorrhage continuously. The technology targets faster detection and improved triage for stroke subtypes (ischemic with and without large vessel occlusion, and intracerebral hemorrhage) as well as TBI in far‑forward and battlefield environments. The scanners were invented by the company’s medical co‑founders, specialists in emergency medicine, neurology and neurocritical care. Sense cites a successful first‑in‑human pilot study of its triage technology and an ongoing pivotal trial for continuous intracranial hemorrhage monitoring. The company was selected by the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC) Combat Casualty Care Research Program for support. It received a $2.43 million award from the U.S. Department of Defense issued through the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC) to complete product development and clinical testing over the next 18 months. Sense Neuro Diagnostics is developing a head-worn medical device that uses RF electromagnetic pulses and an algorithm to continuously monitor for worsening intracranial bleeds in stroke and traumatic brain injury patients. The system analyzes scattered and absorbed RF waves to identify large or small blockages and alarm clinicians earlier than current episodic imaging allows, with the goal of enabling earlier step-down from neuro ICU and reducing hospital costs. The company is also developing a miniaturized in-field wearable for prehospital use, which will require a separate trial. Sense Neuro is preparing a pivotal clinical trial: the first phase is expected to begin in September with about 50 patients across five sites, and a second phase is planned to start in March in Delhi, India. The company plans to pursue a de novo 510(k) regulatory clearance with the FDA. Financially, Sense Neuro is seeking $7 million in a Series B, has $2.5 million already committed, and previously raised $1.5 million in NSF/SBIR grants and $1.2 million in a Series A; investors include Queen City Angels, Strategic Neuro Physician Investors and Accelerant Fund. Sense Neuro won the medical devices pitch track at the MedCity INVEST conference.
