Sensible 4 builds autonomous-driving software designed to allow vehicles to operate in severe weather such as snow, heavy rain, fog and sandstorms. The company says its first product is ready for pre-production and it is working with non-exclusive partners to target mass-production. Sensible 4 will use the new funding to continue pre-production development and further refine its baseline product. The startup received an €8 million loan from the European Investment Bank to support this work. Sensible 4 previously raised a $7 million Series A in 2020. Leadership frames the EIB financing as early-stage support to advance the platform toward commercial deployment. Founded in 2017 and based in Espoo, Sensible 4 builds autonomous driving software tailored for demanding and harsh weather conditions, combining LiDAR-based software and sensors. The company released an autonomous shuttle, GACHA, in cooperation with Japanese retailer MUJI; GACHA won the Good Design Gold Award in Japan and the Beazley Designs of the Year award in the Transport category. Sensible 4 says it remains one of the few companies able to drive autonomously in all weather conditions and plans to further develop the technology toward commercial deployment. With the new funding the company will continue software development and build more GACHA buses for planned entry into the Japanese and Chinese markets by the end of the year. Sensible 4 also intends to scale across Europe. The company is led by co-founder and CEO Harri Santamala, who emphasized the investment will allow integration of the technology into commercial use.
