Overview
Sensible Medical develops a non-invasive thoracic fluid status monitor as its flagship product. The company raised $20 million in its latest financing to advance clinical evidence and commercialization. Boston Scientific led the round and is collaborating with Sensible on launch activities. The partners are working to obtain certification for the monitor in the U.S., Europe, and Japan. Other investors in the round included Shanghai LongTec Medical Technology Co., SCP Vitalife Partners, and Genesis Partners. Sensible plans to use the funds to gather additional clinical data and commercialize the product globally. Sensible Medical is developing a non-invasive imaging device that marries medical and information technology to examine internal organs and monitor congestive heart failure. The company says the device could replace exploratory surgery currently needed to detect congestive heart failure. The technology has been tested in animals and Sensible is preparing to test it in humans as it moves toward U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval. Founded in 2007 by CEO Amir Ronen, the Israeli company is opening its first U.S. office in Columbus, Ohio to work primarily with Dr. William Abraham of Ohio State University and to test the device with Ohio State and the Cleveland Clinic. In June Sensible Medical won a $7 million investment from SPC Vitalife and Genesis Partners, and in May it was among recipients of a shared $1 million award from the Global Cardiovascular Innovation Center. The Columbus office currently has one employee and the company expects to add more staff as U.S. testing progresses.
