Overview
Sensimed develops the SENSIMED Triggerfish, a non-invasive soft contact lens that provides continuous 24-hour intraocular pressure (IOP) profiles. The device centralizes 24-hour IOP profiles together with patient and treatment information on a registry and applies modeling and learning algorithms to identify pathological patterns and personalize treatment. Led by CEO Jean-Marc Wismer, the company focuses on using those profiles and analytics to differentiate indication and tailor therapy. Sensimed raised CHF17M in the first close of its Series C to fund near-term objectives. The capital will be used to finalize approvals in the US and China, expand commercialization beyond leading centers in about twenty countries, and continue a broad program of post-marketing application trials. The company also plans to implement and open its central registry to all users and to fund ongoing operations. Sensimed, founded in 2003 as an EPFL spin-off and based in Lausanne, develops the SENSIMED Triggerfish, a device for continuous monitoring of intraocular pressure, a key glaucoma risk factor. The Triggerfish is the company’s first approved product and is positioned for clinical and commercial rollout. The company received an additional CHF3.5m equity investment to support regulatory approval efforts in the US and Asian countries. Planned uses of the funds include commercialization in selected geographies, running post-marketing application trials and funding ongoing operations. Existing investors include Wellington Partners, Vinci Capital and BlueOcean Ventures, which previously closed the first part of the Series B. Strategic and private investors have also participated in the round.
