Sensor Networks is a Cape Town–based Internet of Things (IoT) company that builds both sensors and a web platform to help insurance companies reduce risk. The company started in 2015 building Bluetooth trackers and has since expanded to integrated IoT solutions for insurers. Its nine-person team spent the last year building hardware and the end-to-end platform in-house to avoid reliance on external sensor suppliers. Sensor Networks is working with five South African insurance companies and plans to begin rollouts with insurance partners in the fourth quarter. The startup is set to launch another home-sensor product in October, though details are withheld under a non-disclosure agreement. Financially, Sensor Networks has secured funding from 4Di Capital that included a minority stake and totaled less than R10-million.
