Sentinel Labs builds on-machine, real-time endpoint protection using a patent-pending predictive execution modeling engine that detects intent and stops unknown or zero-day attacks without relying on signatures. Its host-based agent runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Android today, with iOS and Linux agents in development and slated for launch within 60 days. The technology is designed for low CPU and memory overhead, typically consuming fractions of a percent of device resources. Sentinel says it protects workstations, mobile devices and servers and is already working with multiple Fortune 500 customers. The company plans to expand its offering and launch a Next Generation Endpoint Protection suite built on its predictive engine by year’s end. Sentinel is based in Palo Alto, California and Tel Aviv and emphasizes a team drawn from Intel, McAfee, Check Point and Israeli defense units. Sentinel Labs develops endpoint software installed on individual devices to detect and enforce against cyber-security threats in real time. The company’s approach emphasizes operating on the final line of defense—the actual machine—so it can kill threats once detected. Sentinel Labs graduated from Israeli accelerator UpWest Labs and currently has several beta testers while working to expand support across desktop, server and mobile platforms. It claims a very high percentage of blocked malware threats but remains in beta pending broader deployment. The company raised $2.5M in seed funding and had previously raised $20,000 last March. Management plans to use the new funding mainly for research and development, to transition from beta to launch within six months, and to build an initial workforce and a U.S. sales team.
