Overview
Sentinel is an Estonia-based company developing a multi-layer detection platform for identifying synthesized media (deepfakes). Its platform combines four defence layers: hashing known in-the-wild deepfakes, a machine-learning metadata parser, audio-synthesis checks and frame-by-frame facial analysis. The startup says it has amassed the largest database of in-the-wild deepfakes and operates an in-house verification team of three human specialists who must all agree to label complex examples. Sentinel launched a subscription service in Q2 and targets governments, international media outlets and defence agencies, with early clients including the European Union External Action Service and the Estonian government. It also offers bespoke consultancy, prediction explainability, training-data statistics and threat modelling tied to its dataset. A company study identified more than 145,000 deepfakes in 2020, underscoring rapid growth of synthesized media. The founders have backgrounds at NATO, Monese and the U.K. Royal Navy.
