Sentinels is a Dutch AI-powered transaction monitoring startup launched 18 months ago by Joost van Houten as a spin-out from Slimmer AI. It offers a cloud-based intelligent transaction monitoring solution aimed at fintech companies to enable data-driven compliance and detect money laundering and other illicit activity. Customers include Mollie, Terrapay, Online Payment Platform, Ginger Payments and ManoBank. The company raised €5.7M in a seed round and has now raised a total of £7.3m (€8.4m) to date. The funding will be used to further build out the product and expand operations into the UK and beyond Europe to North America, LatAm and APAC. Investors include lead investor Inkef Capital alongside strategic angel investors and industry leaders, including several members of the early Adyen team such as former EVP sales Thijn Lamers and Head of Growth Maikel Lobbezoo.
