Overview

Seqera Labs builds Nextflow, an open-source workflow and data orchestration platform used by cloud providers, sequencing companies, genomics platforms and more than 150 pharmaceutical and biotech firms, including AstraZeneca, Janssen and Oxford Nanopore. Founded in 2018 as a spin-off from the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), the company’s software has been used for COVID-19 variant detection, including identification and tracking of Alpha, Delta and Omicron variants. Seqera is expanding its product lineup to cover the entire data analysis lifecycle and is hiring to grow its team. The company reports year-over-year revenue increases in the range of 400% and says headcount has tripled in the past 12 months. Since March 2019 Seqera has raised €27.6 million in total, including several grants from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Seqera Labs commercializes Nextflow as a cloud-first workflow and data orchestration platform tailored to genomics and life‑sciences applications. Its runtime has been downloaded more than 2 million times and the company’s commercial cloud offering has processed over 5 billion tasks. The platform lets researchers query and merge distributed datasets in place, enabling variant discovery and precision‑medicine workflows without centralizing raw data. Seqera was spun out of the Centre for Genomic Regulation and was created in 2018 by Nextflow co‑founders Evan Floden and Paolo Di Tommaso. It is already generating revenue and counts five of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies among its customers. The company plans to expand into North America and broaden applications beyond genomics into areas such as AI training, image analysis and astronomy.
