Sequel has developed a proprietary, spiral-design tampon intended to absorb fluid more evenly and prevent leaks. The product has two granted patents and three patents pending and the company spent a year on R&D, bench testing, beta trials, and a new manufacturing method. Sequel plans to submit for FDA clearance in the new year and aims to take the product to market in 2022. The company was founded in 2018 by Greta Meyer and Amanda Calabrese, both Stanford product design engineering students and former high-level athletes. Sequel is positioning the tampon as the first in a broader effort to raise the standard of women’s consumer products. The company is working with creative advisor Katelyn Ohashi and intends to use its initial funding to bring the product to market.
