Serverless created an open-source framework in 2015 and today offers the Serverless Platform, which includes the Serverless Framework, Serverless Dashboard and Serverless Gateway. The Framework helps developers set up serverless code across different cloud platforms and define deployment rules and dependencies. The Dashboard provides visibility and tracing for serverless functions over time, while the Gateway enables integration of legacy systems, containers and SaaS into serverless workflows. The framework and gateway are open source and will remain so; the company monetizes via paid access to the Dashboard and a hosted version of the Gateway. Customers named in the article include EA Sports, Nordstrom, Reuters and Coca-Cola. The company has 22 employees, is based in San Francisco, and plans to use new funding to expand and further build out the platform. Serverless is an open-source framework that simplifies writing applications for event-driven compute platforms such as AWS Lambda and plans to support Microsoft Azure Functions and Google Cloud Functions. The company announced its framework is out of beta and has gathered adoption on GitHub, where the project has more than 11,000 stars. Founder and CEO Austen Collins, an ex-AWS consultant, leads a team of twelve employees. Serverless is part of Heavybit’s developer-product program and already counts the Coca-Cola Company among its users. The startup has not settled on a monetization strategy yet but is considering paid consulting and proprietary features. It plans to use new funding to accelerate framework development and add support for additional cloud providers.
