Sesame Solar

1300 Falahee Rd, Jackson, Michigan, 49203, United States

Overview

Sesame Solar develops mobile, off-grid renewable nanogrids that combine solar and hydrogen fuel-cell technologies to deliver indefinitely renewable emergency power while also providing water purification and communications. The company deploys compact nanogrids for hospitals, clinics, community staging areas, and first responders and has been used after Hurricane Maria, Hurricane Ida, and Hurricane Ian. Sesame launched what it calls the world’s first 100% renewable mobile emergency-response nanogrid and is working with the Air Force to build two green-hydrogen nanogrids for DoD testing. The team is developing a pay-for-use (portable power-as-a-service) model and plans to pre-position systems ahead of extreme-weather events; when not in use for disasters the units could serve tribal nations or disadvantaged communities. Sesame reports supply-chain and talent challenges tied to manufacturing and is prioritizing U.S. suppliers and local Midwest manufacturing in Jackson, Michigan. Financially, the company has raised $2 million from investors, received SBIR grants from the Air Force, and qualifies for 30% tax credits/direct payments under the Inflation Reduction Act (potentially up to 50% in disadvantaged or tribal deployments).
