Shadow operates a cloud PC service that runs full Windows 10 virtual machines in data centers, letting phones, laptops and its own device act as thin clients. The company runs thousands of VMs on 800 server‑grade Intel Xeon processors with a dedicated Nvidia GTX 1070 for each user and charges about €30 ($32.70) per month. The service is currently available only in France and has roughly 3,500 users who averaged 2.5 hours of use per day over the last 30 days. With the new funding Shadow plans to scale capacity so customers can order instantly rather than via pre‑order batches, and to expand geographically. The startup intends to expand to the U.K. and Germany in 2017, target 100,000 clients by the end of 2018, pursue B2B channels and offer lower‑power instances for office and mass‑market users. Shadow also says users control their Windows instances, and it plans to provide its own encryption system and stronger privacy terms of service.
