ShapeScale builds an AI-powered, photorealistic 3D body scanner that digitizes and measures the body to track changes in fat and muscle. Its computer vision and deep-learning models were developed using a dataset of DEXA scans to estimate visceral fat and lean muscle mass. The device is positioned for a B2B2C go-to-market, used today in weight-loss clinics, gyms, and physiotherapist offices and sold to businesses for $200 per month with no upfront cost. ShapeScale also offers consumer access via a subscription model and emphasizes gamified, visual feedback to improve user engagement. The company reports deployment in 100 business locations and plans to double that number by the end of the quarter. Shape has taken preorders at a $500 price (with a $100 deposit) and reports that orders have already hit six figures; it has raised $690,000 to date via equity crowdfunding and is backed by Y Combinator.
