The platform covers over two million lives across 109 countries and is used by more than 250 employers and health plans, including nearly 10% of the Fortune 500. ShapeUp supports 23 languages, global device logistics, and 24/7 translated phone and email support, positioning it as a global leader in corporate wellness. The company has 75 employees, reached profitability in 2013, and had previously raised $9 million since inception. ShapeUp plans to invest heavily in mobile capabilities and device integration (GPS, accelerometers, Apple's M7, smart watches) and projects most participants will access the platform primarily via mobile by 2015. It also intends to expand global marketing, regional health content and localization tools, and to double headcount with satellite offices in Boston, New York, and San Francisco within 24 months. Founded in 2006 by Brown Medical School students Rajiv Kumar and Brad Weinberg, Shape Up The Nation operates a social networking–based online health and wellness platform focused on teamwork and peer support. Members use peer-based motivation tools and challenges to achieve goals such as weight loss, increased physical activity, and smoking cessation. The platform also sells benefits to employers and health plans, promising improved workforce health, lower health claims, increased productivity, and enhanced corporate culture. The company reports traction with over 120 marquee clients, including Cleveland Clinic, Cargill, Jarden Corporation and National Grid. Concurrent with its operating progress, Shape Up The Nation closed a $5M Series A financing.
