Shared
1600 East Madison Street, Seattle, WA, United States
Overview
Shared designs and operates a sturdy, moped-like electric micro-vehicle with wide tires, a low center of gravity, a 40-mile battery range and top speeds of about 15 mph. The company has deployed 15 vehicles in a Portland trial and plans to roll out 200 units there by early August, with additional launches planned in Oakland in September and a pilot in Seattle targeted for early 2020. Riders currently pay $1 to unlock and $0.35 per minute. Shared emphasizes theft resistance, comfort for larger users, suitability for roads and bike lanes (not sidewalks), and improved traction on uneven surfaces. The team is developing autonomous capabilities—aiming for an internal self-driving prototype by year-end and a street-tested version in a test city by the end of 2020—and sees autonomy enabling on-demand summoning and goods delivery. Financially, Shared raised $600,000 in an initial pre-seed and later disclosed a $1 million raise from Madrona Venture Group and other local angels; the founders said they planned a seed raise in September 2019.
