Shelby.tv
New York, United States
Overview
Shelby.tv built a website and iOS app to help users discover and watch videos shared by their social networks. The company pulled its original product offline to rebuild the platform from the ground up rather than iterating on the first version. The new build is intended to be faster, with better processing, more videos to choose from, and improved community and sharing features. CEO Reece Pacheco said the team has made significant technical progress over the past year, though much of it is not yet public-facing. Financially, Avalon Ventures and a group of angel investors previously put $1.5 million into the company and have now provided an additional $2.2 million to fund continued development. The company says the funding will allow the team to stay focused on product for launch and may support a couple of hires. Shelby.tv builds a personalized, no‑hassle stream of online video that aggregates links your friends share on Facebook and Twitter. The product aims to combine the on‑demand relevance of web video with the effortless continuous‑stream experience of traditional television. The service is currently in a private alpha, according to CEO Reece Pacheco. The company recently raised $1.5M in funding led by Avalon Ventures and says it is hiring with the new capital. Avalon partners Rich Levandov and Brady Bohrmann joined the board as part of the round. Shelby.tv graduated from the first TechStars NYC class and faces competition from startups like Deja, Frequency, and Plitzy as well as YouTube features such as LeanBack and Google TV integration.
