Sherpaa offers a yearly plan that combines insurance-selection advice from insurance experts with 24/7 telephone access to a group of doctors who triage care and prevent needless ER visits. The core product recommends high-deductible plans that many employees do not exceed and suggests $2,000 prepaid debit cards to simplify payments. Sherpaa says it can cut per-employee insurance costs by $1,000–$4,000 and keep premium increases to roughly 5–10% a year. It is currently operating only in New York City and counts Tumblr and nine other teams as customers. The company plans to use new funding to expand to San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Chicago, build out its product, and grow its small team.
