Shield Manufacturing Technologies, based in Southam, Warwickshire, is developing the e-MOTIF (e-axle with Motor Inverter and Flywheel), which integrates a motorsport-derived lightweight energy recovery system with a new motor and inverter for electric cars and vans. The company aims to cut energy consumption and CO2 emissions through a scalable, cost-effective power-dense electric drive module. e-MOTIF combines flywheel energy recovery technology from motorsport with bespoke motor and inverter engineering to improve vehicle efficiency. Shield says the programme will support three new manufacturing centres opening across the UK and create skilled roles and opportunities for the region’s supplier base. The company is advancing production readiness via an APC-guided R&D project supported by government and industry funding.
