Founded in 2013 and based in Bengaluru, the company claims to protect over 60,000 internet properties across 70 countries from threats including web scraping, account takeover, carding, scalping and ad fraud. Customers include Axel Springer, Practo, Times Group, Android Central, Carboat Media and Toms Guide, spanning sectors such as e-commerce, media, classifieds, real estate, travel, gaming, auction and healthcare. The firm says conventional web application firewalls are insufficient to detect automated attacks, positioning its product as a specialized application-security layer. ShieldSquare will use the new funding for product development and to expand operations in the US and Europe. ShieldSquare offers a proprietary platform that integrates via a REST API and JavaScript to differentiate human and bot traffic at scale. The technology is designed to stop scraping bots, site-abuse bots, and fraud bots, improving site performance and protecting revenue. ShieldSquare is used by sites in 27 countries and is processing roughly a billion page views per month. Customers include large content portals that want to protect unique content and commerce sites defending against competitive bot attacks. The company operates a freemium subscription model that lets companies diagnose their site before upgrading to paid plans. ShieldSquare was selected from TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Alley and is led by co-founder and CEO Pavan Thatha.
