Shiram Credit Co. Ltd. is a Chennai, India-based firm that offers savings, insurance and investment products to underserved customers. It serves low-income populations and aims to expand access to financial services for people living on less than $2.50 a day. The company is the financial services distribution arm of Shriram Capital, the holding company for the Financial Services and Insurance entities of the Shriram Group. Shiram Credit recently received a $15M equity financing from LeapFrog Investments. The proceeds will be used to expand its branch network. LeapFrog is described as a $135M social fund that invests in companies providing insurance products and inclusive financial services in Africa and Asia.
