Overview
Shortwave is a Gmail-centric email client built by a team of ex-Google/Firebase employees that aims to reimagine Google Inbox for modern workflows. The product groups messages into bundles, treats the inbox like a to‑do list with checkmarks, and adds features such as pinning, reordering, and snoozing. It also incorporates chat-client features — GIFs, emoji reactions, channels, @mentions, typing notifications and online presence — to make group conversations easier for business teams. The founders named in the article are CEO Andrew Lee, CPO Jacob Wenger and CTO Jonny Dimond. Shortwave is targeting business users with a freemium model: the service is free, but users pay to retain more than 90 days of email history. The team has noted the Android app is still rough while the iOS app felt closer to the Inbox experience during testing.
